Sonos Beam – Is It Really Worth The Money?

July 5, 2018admin

The Sonos Beam is the new Sound Bar in the market and also, a brand new smart speaker. The built of the speaker is relatively smaller than Sonos’s other products – Playbar and Playbase. It’s also an intelligent speaker, which means this isn’t just up against random Soundbars, it’s also up against other smart speakers like an Echo or HomePad.

The Beam comes with 4 full range woofers and then there is a center tweeter with three passive radiators for more sound to come out of there. But what is really interesting to note, is that the inputs on this are not what you would expect. There is a power button, a sync button, an ethernet port, but there is only a singular HDMI port for input.

You can always use an optical audio out as the Beam comes with an adaptor that allows the customer to use his optical audio out on the T.V. to the HDMI port on the Beam. In a modestly sized room, the Beam has bass, as much you would expect from something this small.

It has incredibly good speaker separation so unlike the Homepage, it is not trying to magical things with auto-tuning. Sonos has the reputation for high-quality sound and it is evident from their new product as well. Now, speaking of its built, it is constructed of plastic and instead of a metal grill, this time it has a cloth grill. But on the top, it looks quite similar to the Sonos One, with the same playback controls and microphone array.

But the microphone array in the Beam has been upgraded to work within a home theatre. Based on testing, the mics work well and the Alexa listens to you. As the system uses HDMI-CEC, it lets you turn the system on and off by just using your voice. The Beam only supports Amazon Alexa for now, but later it may also get Google Assistant. It also comes with a comprehensive app which offers dozens of streaming services.

The Sonos Beam at $399 is way more affordable than other products in the market. It is said that 38% of Sonos’s customers end up buying a second Sonos’s speaker. If you want to buy a speaker that sounds as good as looks, then this affordable speaker in your living room would definitely be a great addition.

The dimensions of the Beam are H 2.70 x W 25.625 x D 3.94 inches. You can also choose from two different colors, black or white to fit in with your rooms decor.

So is it worth the money? Definitely for the latest features and stylish compact design.

Check out the Sonos Beam at Amazon.com to purchase for one of the best prices, and have it delivered to you in super quick time.
